Political, Satirical or Advertising Tokens from the 1830s to the 1840s. Fine or Better Condition.
Highly Collectable!
Hard Times Tokens as they are called, are generally the size of U.S. Large Cents that circulated during this period.
Minted from about 1832 to 1844 these privately minted tokens show a wide variety of political and satirical motifs as well as advertisements for merchants.
Though tokens dated earlier are still considered Hard Times tokens, the actual hard times period did not start until 1837 when banks would no longer exchange paper currency for coins.
There are rarities in the Hard Times series but most are quite affordable with more than 500 different varieties being catalogued over the years.
Dates and types are of our choice.
