A set of four historic Jefferson nickels and vintage U.S. Monticello Stamp. The 2003 coins show the original portrait of Thomas Jefferson. and image of Monticello. The Jefferson nickel was first minted in 1938 to honor Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson was third President of the United States from 1801-1809 and this portrait was based on a bust made in 1789. The reverse shows Jefferson's home at Monticello in Virginia. The 2003 coin was the final issue with the original designs. The 2004 and 2005 coins had special commemorative designs and the regular Jefferson Nickel returned in 2006. The 2006 coin was known as the "Return to Monticello" coin. This coin has a new portrait of Jefferson. It features the first forward-facing portrait of a president on a circulating coin. The portrait is based on an 1800 painting by artist Rembrandt Peale. The design also shows the word "Liberty" in Jefferson's handwriting. The Reverse features Monticello, but the details have been sharpened. This set includes two of each coin, to show the obverse and reverse designs. Also included is the 20c Monticello stamp issued April 13, 1956. This is the only U.S. stamp to show Monticello. This Stamp has been out of issue for 50 years but is in original Mint condition. The coins and stamp come in a deluxe wallet display with a Certificate of Authenticity. |
