Celebrate the 70th Anniversary of The Wizard of Oz
Originally released in 1939, this year marks the 70th anniversary of when this timeless classic movie was first seen by its adoring fans. This two-coin set utilizes a JFK Half Dollar and a State Quarter from Dorothy’s home in Kansas.
Using a unique process, these coins are plated with 24K gold and then brilliantly colorized with memorable images from this beloved movie.
The JFK Half Dollar features the four main characters, Dorothy-the farm girl who wants to go out and explore the world but then realizes she misses her home; Tin Man- a metal woodsman who yearns for a heart; Scarecrow- a sack of straw who wants to use brain power and Cowardly Lion- the king of the forest who would like to live up to the reputation of his breed and gain the bravery that he lacks.
The Kansas State Quarter features the scene when the Wicked Witch of the West utters the famous line, “I’ll get you my pretty….and your little dog too!”
This image also features Glinda, the Good Witch of the North.
