Much of Hadrian's reign was spent visiting provinces of his vast empire, through this he greatly improved the defense of these areas. He is best known as the builder of the Great Wall from Tyne to Solway. Much of this immense work can still be seen today. With a firm but humane rule Hadrian is considered to be one of the more capable emperors to ever occupy the throne and he devoted his whole life to the improvement of the state.
